The Camp Staunton 2012 Coordinator Claire Richardson is integrating an organized version of physical education into the summer camp program this year.  This is in addition to all the organized activities and free play that is already crammed into the camps’ daily schedules.  We have a few video clips of Camp Staunton 2012’s orientation to the concepts of “Stretch and Grow”.  Here are the descriptions of what will take place at each of the camp sites followed by video clips.

Stretch ‘N Grow: Garden Center– Thursdays at 9am
What do you get when you put reading and exercise together? Stretch-n-Grow (SNG) Reads!! We start by reading a great children’s story together, then get up and put the story in motion! Excellent early reading skills are incorporated into each class like: recognizing the title, author, beginning and ending sounds, and beginning/middle/end of the story. Developed and tested by a Reading Specialist, SNG Reads! appeals to all kinds of learners and encourages physical activity too!

For anyone not familiar, we organize our camps according to age.  The Garden Center is the home of the Supernovas, also known as 5 and 6 year olds.

Stretch ‘N Grow: Gym & Montgomery Hall-Tuesdays at 9am
A high energy & interactive class that is sure to have kids smiling! Ninja & Sensei games make this cardio-kick class a blast! Non-contact & non-aggressive, we teach and challenge each child to grow and learn at their level with positive reinforcement in a non-competitive & motivating environment. To top it off, we add elements of fitness yoga to increase flexibility and muscle control. All this, combined with lessons about self-control, respect, and anti-bullying make this class a winner for everyone.

The gym is home to the Star Galaxy (7 -9 year olds).  The Eclipses at Montgomery Hall Park are 9-12 years old.
